From the Pen of Paul: Who or What is a Christian?

For your personal time of study or for use in discussion with others.

My thoughts:

  • The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 6:3-8 that someone baptized into Jesus has something that others don’t: life. The story of my baptism is ______________ OR I haven’t been baptized because ______________ . After reading Paul’s words in Romans 6, my future is ______________ because of my response to what Jesus did for me.
  • The life of a Christian is also marked by the Spirit of Christ in them (Romans 8). Galatians 5:16-25 sets up the image of lives without the Spirit and with the Spirit. As I reflect on the last six or seven days of my own life with all that Paul describes, I most reflect a life of ______________ . One area I specifically want to improve is ______________ .

My words and actions:

Being a Christian is more than a decision. A way of thinking and living follows it. I know that in my head, but my mouth, hands, and feet don’t always follow suit. I’m reminded that Christ came for me, died for me, and is doing all he can to help me. In return, I am reminded of my identity. I wear his name. It must affect all I think, do, and say.

My prayer;

God, with so much gratitude, I think of Jesus’ words and teachings. I’m also grateful that he chose Paul to teach others. As Jesus and Paul have taught me, I ask that you’ll help me inform others of the good news from heaven! Please remind me of what all it means to wear the name ‘Christian.’ In the name of my Savior I pray, Amen.
