What Changes a Person?

For your personal time of study or for use in discussion with others.

My thoughts:

  • Paul the apostle wasn’t always known by that name. He tells his story in Acts 22:3-21. At one time, he hated Jesus and those who followed Jesus. I’ve also been a person who didn’t believe at one time. My story differs from Paul’s in that ______________ . My story is very similar to his because I ______________ . Being in the presence of Jesus can start to change a person.
  • Obedience to Jesus also changes a person. Paul could not keep doing what he was doing. Instead, Jesus pointed him down a different road – literally and figuratively. Since I decided I’d follow Jesus, I no longer ______________ . (If I haven’t decided to obey Jesus, Paul’s story reminds me how important that is!)

My words and actions:

It is not enough to say, “I believe!” Acts tells of people shocked that Paul, whom they formerly knew as Saul, was now preaching about Jesus! In Acts 17:1-4, Luke tells about Paul’s new custom: going from city to city teaching about Jesus. It cannot be any different for me. Jesus has changed my life, and I know he can do the same for others who don’t yet know him.

My prayer;

Jesus, thank you for meeting me where I was, where I am. You give me hope, direction, forgiveness, purpose, and more. Please use me to introduce you to other people I know. Some have heard of you but don’t know all the good you can do for them. I ask that you both help me model and teach it. I’m so grateful you speak to the Father on my behalf, and I’m so thankful for the leading of your Spirit. Amen.
